FAQ Interview Question 19
What
if a participant disagrees with a trainer?
We encourage
that. It's not about the trainer. If they disagree, it's a sign that the
training is working. It's a sign that there's safety enough in the room
for somebody to feel safe enough to disagree, and that's great, because
it's not about the trainer's ideas or enforcing his/her ideas. If people
disagree, then we get to know what they're thinking. It's a great sign
that people are beginning to feel that they have enough safety to think
about anything, including and especially something they feel is wrong
or sideways or out of integrity with the trainer in the room.
This question
presupposes that somehow part of our agenda is to get people to agree
with us and that's simply not our agenda. Our agenda is to support people
in getting clear about what's important for them and to coach them towards
having that happen with others. We're crystal clear that we don't go into
a training with the awareness as to how that's going to play out; it's
something that's created together in conversation. Therefore, our whole
come from isn't about telling people what to do, our come from is about
finding out what matters to them and coaching them towards that. And that
is created together in conversation. We don't presuppose how that's going
to happen because it's different in every situation with every person.
